Research Interests

Dr Hoti, Director-in-Charge of the ICMR-National Institute of Traditional Medicine in Belagavi, Karnataka, is interested in translational research on traditional medicine. For nearly 40 years he has worked on biological vector control research, molecular biology and immunology, drug and diagnostics development for lymphatic filariasis and other vector borne diseases. He has been involved in the development of various technologies, including the isolation, characterisation and production of highly potent bacterial Bacillus strains for mosquito control. He has received numerous awards for his work including Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad and the Indian Society for Parasitology, the Outstanding Scientist award of Indian Society of Arthropodology, and he has mentored over 70 national and international post-doctoral trainees and students.

As the Indian PI of our project on KFD, a viral disease that until recently was restricted to a small area of Shimoga district, he is keenly interested in the vector aspects and the development of mitigating tools and strategies.
